Event Information
ICE, CONFINDUSTRIA, ABI, IPI and UMCE (Union of Mediterranean Confederations
of Enterprises) with the support of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs,
the Italian Ministry of Productive Activities and Regione Siciliana, have pooled
together to promote an event which has the purpose of reinforcing the economic
relations between Italy and the following 13 Countries of the southern side
of the Mediterranean: Algeria, Cyprus, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Malta,
Morocco, Palestinian Territories, Syria, Tunisia and Turkey
Delegations from 13 countries of the Mediterranean will participate to this
event: the project has the aim of reaffirming Italy’s central role and
promoting the investments of Italian companies in the area which, in the last
decade, has proved to be amongst the most dynamic in terms of export and Italian
investments.

The event, which will take place in Palermo (Sicily) on the 20 and 21 February
2006, will comprise:
- a Business Forum on the prospectives of the Mediterranean area, on the opportunities
and the strengthening of cooperation between Italy and Mediterranean countries
- Country Presentations by the 13 Mediterranean investment Promotion agencies
(Med IPAs), to illustrate the investment opportunities offered by each country
- on site visits to Sicilian economic zones (for Med delegations)
- one-to-one business meetings between Italian and Med countries companies
- one-to-one business meetings between Italian companies and the 13 Med Investment
Promotion Agencies (Med IPAs)
Each delegation will be composed of:
- President of the local Confederation of enterprises
- President or Director General of the Investment Promotion Agency
- Six entrepreneurs of small and medium enterprises from each country
- One representative of the banking system from each country
- Promoters of the privatisation processes of the banking system of the following
countries: Algeria, Tunisia, Marocco, Turkey and Egypt
The Italian Minister of Productive Activities, Claudio Scajola, the Vice Minister
of Productive Activities Adolfo Urso and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gianfranco
Fini, will partecipate in the event.
